Sun Mapping Your Garden

Calculate sun exposure for an entire day; It’s the best way to measure how much sun an area gets! Sun map for 9:00 am, shaded areas have a shadow.

If you cannot do it each hour, every two hours will suffice. I really should have put it somewhere else! With your sun map in hand, every hour mark down where sunlight is hitting the garden and where the shade is.

Have fun with this exercise and enjoy the feeling of really knowing how much sun you have to offer your plants.

Take a camera with you and photograph your site at mid morning, noon and mid afternoon at midsummer and mid winter.
